Halters' Canadian Border Crossing Experience and Suggestions |
|
Hillclimber Canadian Border Crossing Made Easy! First , on behalf of Halter Motorsports, we would like to say _Thanks_ for your support this season! As you all know we require all riders to be HCPRO members to participate in our events . We are pleased to announce our membership total is now over 250 members!! It is an honor for us to have so many riders participate in a series that will, with our best efforts, become BIGGER and BETTER each year! This is the ONLY International Hillclimb Series of it's kind..........12 International Champions will be crowned..........and everyone is invited to participate in the FUN! It's very exciting for us to put on the BIG TIME International Season Finals for you riders in such a COOL place! The community of Drumheller, Alberta and surrounding areas are completely _*PUMPED*_ to have this event happening in their neighborhood! Local event sponsors have jumped up to help promote the hillclimb and have a very positive approach to this annual event. Thanks to local contractors the intense dirtwork (that took years to complete at our hillclimb ranch in Montana) is already done at our location in the Hidden Valley Motorsports Park! Check out the photos and you'll see the brand new Trophy / Qualifier Hill and the awesome down roads on the Sunday Championship Hill!! These types of custom changes are what make a hillclimb Great! The Sunday down roads will give a rider many options to safely descend if they don't get over the top. The Sunday hill is STEEP but very do-able. Several ledges but no cliff faces like we have in Montana. Let me explain the Canada Sunday hill to you in a way that I think us riders view most "play-ride" weekend hills. When I unload my bike at the beginning of a play ride day I don't immediately go tackle the scariest hill I can find because I want my equipment (and my body!) to survive at least until the afternoon!! I try to find a challenging hill that offers adrenaline but isn't a frame-bender if I don't get over.........that's the kind of Sunday hill we have picked out in Canada. GETTING TO THE HILLCLIMB AND BACK HOME WITHOUT A BORDER CROSSING HASSLE. The border crossing is easy. I've made MANY crossings in the past without a single issue. I pushed the envelope a few times just to test the waters so I could write this letter with the proper experience......no issues whatsoever.
1. AS OF MARCH 2008 THE BORDER IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE THE SAME AS 2007 FOR LAND BORDER CROSSINGS = All adults will need two forms of identification.....a drivers license and a birth certificate (the little laminated card that is easy to get at your local courthouse for $5) _ YOU DON'T NEED A PASSPORT TO DRIVE INTO CANADA AND BACK AT THIS TIME! WE WILL UPDATE THIS SITE IMMEDIATELY IF THE REQUIREMENTS CHANGE! Kids who don't drive yet only need a birth certificate. If they have a school ID that would help in addition to the birth certificate. If you are bringing your buddies kid across who is a minor it would be a good idea to have a medical release form signed by the parents. I've crossed the border with a truck load of adults, minors, and bikes...10 minutes.....no problems whatsoever. 2. Crossing the border (both ways) with an offroad competition dirtbike was no problem. We crossed into Canada with seven hillclimb bikes in the truck with absolutely no problems. We told the Border guys what we had in the back and they said "Have Fun!" and waved us through. We crossed back into the USA a few days later with the crew and the bikes with no problems whatsoever...10 minutes...easy. We had not filled out any claim forms for the bikes. I wanted to test the system to gain needed experience........we had no problems. IF YOU WANT TO PLAY IT EXTREMELY SAFE SIMPLY TAKE A FEW MINUTES AND FILL OUT A "CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION".....FORM 4455. *_*Copy and paste the following link to download the form*_* https://forms.customs.gov/customsrf/getformharness.asp?formName=cf-4455-form.xft OR YOU CAN GET ONE AT THE USA OFFICE AT THE BORDER. KEEP IN MIND IT MAY TAKE YOU 15-20 MINUTES TO FILL OUT All the form does is confirm who you are and what equipment (bikes) you will be taking into Canada and back into the USA. It's basically a statement saying "this is my bike that I will be taking into Canada for fun and will be returning with it in a few days".......same as a fishing boat or snowmobile. The Canadians really don't care, it's the USA Customs that _*MIGHT*_ inspect the form and equipment when you re-enter the USA. Fill out the 4455 form and have it stamped by a USA Customs Officer before you go into Canada. That will guarantee an easy, no hassle border crossing experience. We will be in Canada several weeks before the event getting things ready. If you need info or help simply email me at halter@mtintouch.net If it's an emergency call me on my cellphone but be aware that international phone charges are very steep! 406-794-4149 |
